Meniscusletsel en de grenzen van opereren
Het slechte genezingsvermogen van meniscusletsels en de teleurstellende resultaten van operaties hebben het wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar niet-chirurgische manieren om de meniscus te herstellen gestimuleerd.

Symptomen van meniscusletsel
De basissymptomen van een meniscusletsel zijn:
- pijn, al dan niet met zwelling en bewegingsbeperking
- het klikken van de knie
- het op slot schieten van de knie
Een gevoel van instabiliteit of zwakte van de knie komt vaak voort uit instabiliteit van de omliggende ligamenten.
Regeneratieve injectietherapie
Prolotherapie en Platelet Rich Plasma zijn de twee bekendste injectietherapieën binnen de nieuwe regeneratieve stroming in de orthopedie. Het doel van deze regeneratieve injectietherapieën is het lichaamseigen herstelvermogen te stimuleren, zodat het meniscusletsel alsnog geneest.
Dat doen wij door injectie van glucose (prolotherapie) of van een concentraat van reparatiecellen uit uw eigen bloed (Platelet Rich Plasma). Het herstellende effect van deze behandelingen is voor veel aandoeningen van het bewegingsapparaat al geruime tijd wetenschappelijk bevestigd. Recent zijn er ook enkele onderzoeken geweest met hoopvolle resultaten voor het behandelen van meniscusletsels.
Waarom wij de hele knie behandelen
Is het meniscusletsel ontstaan door een draaibeweging of een ander trauma, dan zijn de omliggende ligamenten vaak ook opgerekt en beschadigd. Zonder behandeling van die bijkomende problematiek is een behandeling van de meniscus alléén gedoemd te falen. Dat geldt ook voor behandeling met prolotherapie en PRP. In sommige centra wordt één injectie gegeven zonder aandacht te besteden aan de rest van de knie.
Door het meniscusletsel te behandelen én de ligamenten van de knie met prolotherapie aan te pakken, versterken wij het fundament van de knie. Zo creëren wij de optimale omstandigheden voor herstel.
Herkenbare symptomen
- Kniepijn, soms met zwelling
- Een knie die minder ver buigt of strekt
- Een klikkend geluid in de knie
- Een knie die op slot schiet
- Een gevoel van instabiliteit of zwakte in de knie
