The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which also makes it vulnerable. Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), rotator cuff problems and bursitis are the most common complaints we see.

Our treatment options
For frozen shoulder we work with a combination of Cyriax manual therapy and — in persistent cases — targeted injection into the capsule. For rotator cuff tendon problems, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) often has a surprisingly good effect: the body's own recovery factors are injected directly into the tendon zone.
We tackle bursitis with corticosteroid injections under ultrasound control or, preferably, with prolotherapy as the first option.
Your recovery journey
Each process is tailor-made, but this is what a typical course looks like — from first intake to pain-free. You are not committed to anything and you always know where you stand.
Diagnostic intake
Cyriax examination determines whether it is impingement, capsulitis, rotator cuff or osteoarthritis. Ultrasound diagnostics possible at Dordrecht team.
Active treatment
Cyriax frictions on the specific tendon, capsular mobilizations. For osteoarthritis: hyaluronic acid injection (Dordrecht, on Thursday also Rotterdam). Shoulder blade control exercises.
Strength building
Rotator cuff strengthening, scapulothoracic stability. Theraband for the first 4 weeks, then light weights.
Free movement
Pain-free use up to above the head. The treatment stops; you are welcome in case of new complaints.
How the investigation is going
We examine the shoulder, but also the neck, upper back and ribs: shoulder pain can also come from the neck. You will always hear what we are investigating and why, and at the end what we have found.
Where you are treated
Research and chiropractic care take place in our practice in Rotterdam. The doctors at our practice perform injections: PRP in Dordrecht, prolotherapy in Dordrecht and on Thursdays also in Rotterdam. If treatment in Dordrecht is better suited to your complaint, we will discuss this with you.
Frequently asked questions
How long does frozen shoulder last?
Without treatment 18-24 months in 3 phases. With treatment 6-12 months.
Should I move through the pain?
Limited — moving to the limit of pain, not far beyond it. Complete rest makes the stiffness worse.
Does cortisone work?
Effective for short-term pain relief in bursitis, but repeated injections can cause tendon weakening.
When is surgery necessary?
In case of complete rotator cuff tear, failed conservative treatment of 6 months, or recurrent dislocations.
Does exercise help preventively?
Yes — strong rotator cuff and good shoulder blade control prevent many complaints.
